Bad News for Incheon's Midan City Resort Developement

The South Korean integrated resort project in Incheon formerly owned by Caesars Entertainment is on the verge of collapse after failing to meet requirements for another extension to its construction deadline, according to local media reports.

Korean newspaper Kyeongin reported this week that developer R&F Korea (RFKR) will struggle to gain an additional extension on its development timeline beyond March 2023 after failing to meet the conditions imposed on its previous extension. This, the local news outlet said, not only included a commitment by RFKR to increase its total project investment by 5% but also stipulated that construction – stalled since February 2020 – must resume inside the first half of 2022.

It also reported that RFKR has a different view on how to complete funding for the project than Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, which had previously approved a plan for the entire US$800 million IR to be financed through foreign direct investment. Instead, Kyeongin claims that RFKR now wants to commit only US$500 million with the remaining US$300 million to come from domestic financial institutions.

An official from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is quoted as saying, “Once an application for re-extension is received, it will be comprehensively reviewed regarding the conditions stipulated when the first extension were approved … I informed [RFKR] that if a change is made, it may affect the re-extension.”

Midan City is slated to include a foreigner-only casino, 751 hotel rooms, a theater and a convention space.

Banyan Tree Ulala will be opening in the second half of the year. It looks pretty nice and will add to the overall resort vision for Saudi Arabia.

AlUla is billed as a cultural oasis and open-air living museum. The location is home to the Ashar valley, which has been chosen by the Royal Commission of AlUla (RCU), as one of the sites to develop the Kingdom into a world class tourist destination. The resort will be located 15km from the Kingdom’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hegra.
Accor, under the Banyan Tree brand, will operate the Ashar Tented Resort with 47 new high-end suites in addition to 35 renovated suites positioned on a neighbouring site, bringing the total number of units up to 82.

The 47 tented suites have been designed in relation to the coves created by rock formations, situated to give extended views across the desertscape while providing maximum privacy for guests. The resort blends seamlessly into the natural scenery of the Ashar Valley, while pedestrian trails through a landscape dominated with sand dunes creates an intimate experience, reinforcing the camping mindset of the location.

LEGOLAND Resort Windsor, UK, have put in a planning application for their indoor adventure golf which is a precursor to expaning to having a full holiday village on site.

As part of the theme park’s future plans to build a holiday village and the reconfiguration of its car park, planners have lodged an application to build the much-anticipated indoor adventure golf attraction.
The building has been designed to sit discretely within the park, with good connectivity to both the entrance to the park and the future holiday village. The proposed attraction will have four individually-themed golf courses, including a pirate-themed one.

The new Adventure Golf Indoor Attraction will be a new secondary ‘support’ ride. It will provide an additional indoor attraction for guests to the park and to the hotel, which is open for additional periods out of season when the main park is closed. The planning statement states: “It will increase the attractiveness of the Park throughout the year and in the future, it will provide an easily accessible indoor attraction for holiday village guests.”

Atari have been making new noises about the launch of their hotels since they went quiet during 2020. You can read more about the project here... https://atarihotels.com/vision/

The team behind a new chain of Atari Hotels has hired architecture firm Gensler to bring its vision of video game-inspired hotels to life.

You'd be forgiven for forgetting about this - 2020 has been A Year and it's hard to remember life before lockdown - but we first revealed the new venture way back in January 2020. Now, however, the agency behind the hotels has posted an update that confirms plans for the chain are still going ahead and shared more concept art on how it envisions the exterior of the hotels will look.

The first two hotels will be launched in Las Vegas, Nevada and Phoenix, Arizona, with further hotels also planned for Austin, Chicago, Denver, San Francisco, San Jose, and Seattle.

Toverland in The Netherlands debuted it's first accomodation with a temporary pop-up summer camping experience but they have now filed permits to make a more permenent accomodation structure for the 2024 season.

Toverland wants to open a holiday resort in 2024 with dozens of permanent accommodations and lodge tents. A spokesperson for the Limburg amusement park confirms this. Looopings was already able to report in March that there were plans to build a permanent residence resort . Today it becomes clear that a permit has recently been applied for.

The still unnamed resort replaces the Pop-Up Summer Camp, where Toverland visitors can stay overnight in the summer months since 2020. "We have submitted a revision permit application to the municipality of Horst aan de Maas, which states that we would like to add permanent residence recreation to Toverland" , the spokesperson explains.
This is the current offering https://www.toverland.com/en/summercamp

Chester Zoo, UK, has submitted plans for a new safari lodge developement to create a resort at the zoo.

The popular zoo has submitted revised plans after recovering from the pandemic. This time the plans are for 63 lodges of varying style and size, many around the perimeter of a large body of water, plus a restaurant, bar and wildlife pond.

A new savannah habitat is also proposed which would give guests the opportunity to wake up to see giraffes strolling by their lodge. The new restaurant would seat up to 120 people, for breakfast, lunch or dinner, with the first-floor views overlooking the lake and the giraffe enclosure.

It is planned for the lodges to be created using sustainable materials and the 'skin' of the buildings would take precedent from the pangolin's body armour of overlapping scales, using timber shingles to create textured natural facades. The savannah-style enclosure would have trees appropriate for the African savannah landscape, sporadically placed, while a denser, greener islands zone would be created to the south of the new site, to provide greater species diversity for wildlife.
