The Bahamas will be home to one more cruise destination in the coming years as the local government signed an agreement with a development company to start construction on Long Island, which is another island south of New Providence and Carnival’s private island of Half Moon Cay.

Calypso Cove, as the new resort will be called, will be developed by Azul Destinations Ltd and Calypso Cove Destinations Ltd at a total cost of some $250 million. The Bahamian Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper said the new tourism destination would include a large variety of attractions.

Besides a 200-room hotel, there will be marina facilities for mega-yachts, a waterpark with interior and exterior pools, casinos, and shopping facilities. The cruise facilities will include a port area and a pier large enough for two Oasis-class ships, such as Harmony of the Seas and Symphony of the Seas.

It's not quite the Burj Khalifa but... Zanzibar is building the Burj Zanzibar, the worlds tallest timber building.

The Indian Ocean island of Zanzibar is planning the highest green building in the world, a 28-story apartment tower designed in hybrid timber technology.

Named Burj Zanzibar – “burj” meaning tower in Arabic – the spectacular high-rise is designed to reach 96 metres in height. Dubbed “vertical green village”, it would represent an iconic landmark not only for the island but for the whole of Africa and a global environmental milestone, being the first timber structure worldwide of such proportions.

The design of the mixed-use apartment and commercial building, in a playful beehive style with breathtaking ocean views, was unveiled to the public in Muscat, Oman on 1 October. Dutch-born architect Leander Moons, responsible for the concept, said: “Burj Zanzibar is not just an outstanding building but a new ecosystem for the future of living”.
With turquoise seas, white sandy beaches and a UNESCO-protected historic Stone Town, Zanzibar recorded 15% annual growth in tourism in recent years and 6.8% economic growth. Earlier this year, the semi-autonomous archipelago, 35 kilometres off the coast of Tanzania, stretched its wings also into another direction, launching an initiative to attract African tech companies with a total worth of six billion dollars.

The Grand Egyptian Museum is set to finally open its doors after a design and construction project which has taken more than 20 years to complete. Touted as the world's most anticipated museum – thanks to both its unique design and the treasures it will house – the attraction was first announced to the world in 2001.

A design competition in 2002 received more than 1,500 entries, from which Heneghan Peng Architects were selected for the development in 2003. After a delayed start, ground was finally broken in 2005 and the building of the museum has taken nearly 15 years – with the COVID-19 pandemic adding further disruption to the process.

Opening in November 2022, the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) will house, display, and preserve some of the world’s greatest ancient treasures – including King Tut’s entire treasure collection, which will be available to the public for the very first time.

Architects draw up fanciful plans for a giant ring structure around Burj Khalifa in downtown Dubai

It would stretch 1,800 feet above the ground and run to 1.8 miles in circumference between skyscrapers

Inside the ring there would be a mini-city of residences, commercial space and even a green Skypark

But the designers admit the mesmerising plans will never be built due to financial and practical obstacles

Abu Dhabi developer Imkan Properties will launch new projects ahead of schedule this year amid strong demand for property in the capital.

A subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Capital Group, Imkan said a “remarkable” sales performance contributed to the sell-out of Pixel on Reem Island, Nudra on Saadiyat Island and the first phase of AlJurf Gardens, its “Riviera” project on the coast between Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

As a result, it will launch new projects ahead of schedule in the Makers District on Reem Island and AlJurf this year.

The Cloud Center will be an arts, culture and conference space in Qinhuangdao, China opening next year.

Chinese architecture studio MAD has revealed photos of its sculptural Cloud Center building in Qinhuangdao, China, which was designed for arts and culture community Aranya. Images of its construction show the 2,500-square-metre building's bulbous shape taking form, as well as the beginning of the process to clad its overhanging roof in white-stained glass.

The cultural center, which will be located in the port city of Qinhuangdao, 160 miles east of Beijing, will house a grand hall, a gallery and a small theatre. Its design was informed by the "shape and lightweight appearance of clouds" and will sit in the middle of a landscape conceived by MAD as a "white stone garden."
