(Bloomberg) -- Private equity firm Partners Group Holding AG has shown initial interest in Hamilton Island as the family owners of the holiday destination in Australia conduct a strategic review for the asset, according to people familiar with the matter.

Any deal would mark a new era for Hamilton Island, an icon of Australian tourism that was developed into a resort in the 1980s. The island comprises hotels and holiday homes as well as a golf club and a commercial airport, its website shows. It’s the only major developed island in the Great Barrier Reef. It costs about A$16 million ($10 million) a year to maintain the resort’s utilities and infrastructure including its own power house, dams and a reverse osmosis plant, according to a company fact sheet.
The buyout firm is studying the resort island for a potential bid, said the people, who asked not to be identified as the information is private. Partners Group and the Oatley family, who own Hamilton Island, have held preliminary discussions, the people said.

There’s no guarantee that a deal will happen and the Oatley family may decide to keep the assets for longer after a strategic review, the people said. There are also other parties potentially interested in the resort, they added.

Representatives for Partners Group and Oatley family’s investment office declined to comment.

The transformation of Disneyland‘s Paradise Pier Hotel into a Pixar-themed hotel will be completed and open for business on Jan. 30, 2024, Disney has announced.

The Pixar Place Hotel will be the “first fully Pixar-themed hotel in the United States,” according to Disney. The hotel renovation is adjacent to the section of property that Disney is seeking to expand with DisneylandForward, the company’s 30-year plan for expansion and innovation in the area.

“Today hotel, theme park, retail and dining are all part of one immersive experience. Guests expect that the future of entertainment will seamlessly weave all uses together in ways that were hard to imagine more than 25 years ago,” Disney said.

Last month, the media giant unveiled a comprehensive plan to double its investment in theme parks to $60 billion over the next 10 years.

Construction work has resumed on Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia, a skyscraper designed by Chicago-based studio Adrian Smith + Gill Gordon Architecture, which is expected to become the world's tallest building.

Jeddah Tower will hold a Four Seasons hotel, residences, offices as well as the world's highest observation deck on a constructed building. The first images of the prospective tower were released in 2011, and ground was broken in 2013, but the project has been harried by constant starts and stops.
