Kangwon Land announced that it will begin extensive renovations of the Grand Hotel and Mountain Condo next month. 757 rooms, representing over 40% of the total 1,827 rooms across the two complexes, will be newly refurbished. The project budget is 200 billion won, making it the largest scale since the company's founding in 1998.

This renovation is part of the K-HIT Project, a comprehensive development strategy aimed at becoming a global integrated resort with 13 million annual visitors and 3.5 trillion won in revenue by 2035.

The project centers on three main pillars: the Grand Core Zone, which integrates world-class entertainment facilities; the Eco-friendly Wellness Zone; and the Leisure Sports Park. The Grand Core Zone will feature a Media Dome Arena centered around a large-scale dome-shaped entertainment space, three newly constructed hotel buildings, and a new Grand Casino. The Wellness Zone will consist of luxury villas equipped with hot springs and an outdoor garden spa. The Leisure Sports Park will operate seven types of forest-based activities, including a zip coaster, forest adventure, eco-rider, aerial net, observation deck, forest campsite, and forest healing center.

Hard Rock International Unveils Plans for Hard Rock Hotel & Casino San Juan

Governor of Puerto Rico, Jenniffer González-Colón, said: “The launch in San Juan of the first hotel, casino, and residential complex by the prestigious firm Hard Rock International, with construction set to begin mid-year, opens a world of possibilities for economic development. This significant $850 million investment, in addition to generating jobs and becoming another attraction for the island, helps continue positioning Puerto Rico as an ideal destination in the Caribbean — a destination for tourism, living, and global investment.”

Offering views of both San Juan Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino San Juan will feature approximately 415 rooms, 58 suites, and 186 Branded Residences. The property will amplify the island’s music culture by introducing event venues, a recording studio, and local memorabilia. It will be the first integrated casino in Puerto Rico for a complete travel-entertainment experience.

Sun Group breaks ground on Vietnam’s Van Don casino resort

The project is being promoted as a large-scale investment, with a total price tag of “up to US$2 billion”, Sun Group said in a press release.

The complex is being developed across a site exceeding 244 hectares (603 acres), the company added.

Sun Group stated: “The project is planned under a modern ‘resort city’ model, aiming to create a regional-scale entertainment and tourism destination meeting international standards, integrating a wide range of tourism, accommodation, commercial, and entertainment functions, and operating on a 24/7 basis.”

Sun Group said in August that it had been selected by the country’s authorities as the investor for a US$2-billion resort scheme at Van Don, on the northern coast of Vietnam, which would be permitted to include a “high-class casino”.

Sun Group stated in the release that a “key highlight” of the project (pictured in an artist’s rendering) is the “pilot casino gaming and entertainment area allowing Vietnamese citizens to participate in accordance with government policy”.

The firm added that the casino would enhance Van Don’s tourist attractiveness and help to “establish a model capable of competing with major global entertainment destinations” such as Macau, Singapore and Las Vegas, in the US state of Nevada.

According to the press release, the casino component is scheduled to be inaugurated in 2028, with full project completion targeted for the fourth quarter of 2034.

Bally’s is rolling the dice on The Bronx after shelling out nearly $157 million for a slice of waterfront parkland where it plans to build a massive casino resort.

The deal, which went into contract in November and closed Feb. 13, gives the company control of land currently used for the golf course clubhouse and parking areas, along with nearby roadways that will serve as the main approach to the future complex, Crains first reported.

The planned resort would feature a roughly 500,000-square-foot casino, a 500-room hotel and a 2,000-seat arena-style entertainment venue, all housed in a sweeping structure overlooking the East River beside the park’s existing 18-hole golf course.

Today (April 1) Aichi prefecture formally launched a request-for-proposal (RFP) process for a potential IR on an artificial island that also hosts Chubu Centrair International Airport.

Hokkaido prefecture last month announced a bidding process to select a service provider to conduct research related to the possible establishment of an IR with a casino in the prefecture.

The government of Japan has signalled its intentions to expand the development of integrated resorts in the country.

The Japanese Tourism Agency released a draft Cabinet order laying out plans for a new application window for local governments interested in hosting integrated resorts between 6 May 2027 and 5 November 2027.

US gaming giant Hard Rock International is expected to apply for an integrated resort licence in Japan in 2027 when the bidding reopens.

The cities of Kushiro and Hakodate in Hokkaido have also expressed interest in hosting an IR. Hard Rock’s proposal would transform the chosen landscape, adding a guitar-shaped hotel, a Four Seasons Resort, a Hard Rock Live venue, retail and dining facilities and a casino.
