This is the Australia Pavilion interview from the Construction Week series.

Construction Week are hosting a series of videos on reactions to the postponement of Dubai 2020. It's interesting to listen to the various pavilion owners talk about their work and how Dubai is going to welcome visitors in 2021 instead of this year.

This one is the Luxembourg Pavilion.

Expo 2020 has officially been postponed by one year to 2021:

Expo 2020 Dubai is gearing up to help shape a post-pandemic world and create a better future for all after a two-thirds majority of Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) Member States voted in favour of postponing the next World Expo by one year.

The global mega event will now run from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022, a delay that allows all participants to safely navigate the impact of COVID-19. It also allows the World Expo to focus on a collective desire for new thinking to identify solutions to some of the greatest challenges of our time.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Airports, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman and CEO of Emirates Group, and Chairman of the Expo 2020 Dubai Higher Committee, said: “We welcome the decision of BIE Member States to support the delay of Expo 2020 Dubai by one year. We are thankful to Member States for their continued commitment to contributing to a World Expo in Dubai that will play a pivotal role in shaping our post-pandemic world at a time when it will be most needed.

Postponement request has been approved by the member states however it has to be voted on by the wider committee. If agreed, the event will run from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022 but will retain the name of EXPO 2020.

Any change of dates requires a two-thirds majority of BIE member states, with voting set to be carried out remotely between April 24th and May 29th.

The executive committee of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) has unanimously agreed to propose the postponement of Expo 2020 Dubai. The 12-delegate member states agreed to the request from the UAE Government that the 173-day global showcase be moved.

Earlier in April, the UAE government officially requested the postponement of Expo 2020 Dubai to October 2021, due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.

How it'll look like once completed:

Postponed till October 2021:

An Expo 2020 spokesperson who asked not to be identified told Al-Monitor, “Countries have asked us to consider postponement to focus their energy on dealing with COVID-19; we wanted to make sure Expo 2020 was true to the moment and addresses our shared challenges, and right now that shared challenge is the coronavirus.”

The Expo Steering Committee requested a postponement until Oct. 1, 2021, from the Bureau International des Exposition in Paris.
