The start of construction work at the US pavilion follows months of uncertainty surrounding America’s participation in the event due to a lack of funding and a failure to receive emergency support from the government. By law, the State Department is not allows to provide funds for such international gatherings.

In January, however, it was announced that the pavilion would be funded “by the generosity of the Emirati government”. The State Department did not disclose any further details on the UAE contribution, but Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had earlier spoken of $60 million needed to set up the pavilion for the six-month fair.

Earlier in March, the State Department announced the selection of Thinkwell Group and Globa Ties US for the exhibition, operations and cultural programming at the US pavilion.

The Construction of the Austrian Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai is in Progress. The first tower, which will later house the kiosk, is already in place. Thirty-eight conical towers cut off at different heights are being built on the site, creating an unusual and lasting appearance.

The Austrian participation “Austria makes sense” shows a holistic approach, that connects people, technology and nature. Standing on a 2400-square-meter plot in the Opportunity thematic area, the pavilion is in close proximity to Switzerland and China. On behalf of the Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affairs (BMDW) and the Austrian Federal Chamber of Commerce (WKO) and according to the ideas of Querkraft Architekten, NUSSLI Adunic, as general contractor, is constructing the entire pavilion.

Organizers of Expo 2020 Dubai are recommending a one-year delay to the world exhibition, the latest global event that looks set to be claimed by the global coronavirus pandemic.

Members of the event’s steering committee, which comprises local government officials and foreign country representatives, agreed on a conference call Monday that a delay was needed and that the Paris-based based Bureau International des Expositions, or BIE, should study this option. The BIE awards the global event and its member states will have the final say.
