More new tourism developments for Saudi Arabia.

Marriott International has announced plans to open two luxury hotels in Saudi Arabia’s Diriyah. The properties will be located near the Unesco World Heritage site at At-Turaif, offering views of the historic town of Diriyah on the outskirts of Riyadh
Marriott says the two hotels will be completed in 2022 and 2025 respectively. The design includes a luxury development and is part of a larger plan that would transform an eleven-square-kilometer swath of the town of Diriyah, 15 minutes outside the capital, in a mixed-use scheme promoted to be reminiscent of the typical Najdi architecture which dots the area first added to UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites in 2010.

His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Public Investment Fund and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Jeddah Central Development Company, has launched the masterplan and main features of the Jeddah Central Project (previously known as New Jeddah Downtown).

The ambitious SR75 billion ($20 billion) project will come up on a 5.7 million sq m of land overlooking the Red Sea to be financed by the Public Investment Fund and from local and international investors.

The Jeddah Central Project is expected to achieve an estimated added value of SR47 billion for the kingdom's economy by 2030. It will include four notable landmarks (Opera House - Museum - Sports Stadium - Oceanarium) and contribute to opening the way for the local private sector to participate in the development, which will help shape the operation of promising economic sectors including tourism, entertainment, culture, and sports.

    Ritz-Carlton Reserve coming to Eleuthera.
It has today been announced that Marriott has signed an agreement with Cotton Bay Holdings to introduce a Ritz-Carlton Reserve property on the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas.
The hotel will be located on the southern end of the island, and will feature 90 guest rooms and suites, plus 60 residences, which will be two to five bedroom villas. The resort will feature an 18-hole golf course, a spa, swimming pools, and restaurants. The Ritz-Carlton Reserve will be in the space of the former Cotton Bay Club, which initially opened in 1959.

The resort is expected to open in around four years, so I’d be surprised if it opens before 2026 at the earliest. With the pace at which hotel construction happens, that’s probably even optimistic. For that matter, a lot can change with projects like this depending on economic conditions, etc.
For those not familiar with Ritz-Carlton Reserve, this is Marriott’s uber-luxury hotel brand. Ritz-Carlton Reserve properties are on a totally different level than standard Ritz-Carlton properties, and are generally much smaller and with more personalized service.
