Restaurant and glamping pod plans given go-ahead at new Edinburgh Wavegarden - Scotland's first artificial surf park

Scotland’s first artificial surf park – to be created near Ratho – will feature a string of additional features to help it boost the local economy by up to £11 million per year.

Wavegarden’s developers, Tartan Leisure Ltd, were yesterday given the go-ahead to press on with their plans after submitting a fresh application to Edinburgh City Council. And they have been given the thumb-up to build overnight accommodation at the development and its HUB complex which will provide food, retail, changing and leisure facilities.

The new planning permission gives the green light for the HUB, with facilities including a restaurant, retail outlet, a surf school, a wellness spa, a café and a number of viewing terraces and an observation deck, overlooking the park. Set within a 60-acre country park, the waterside accommodation will cater for all needs, including school groups, family groups and international surfers, through luxury lodges, glamping pods, accessible “wave pods”, bothies and canal berths.

Property developer Hatten Land Ltd recently found a white knight in Singapore-based hospitality and investment firm Tayrona Capital Pte Ltd to revive its stalled RM2.2 billion Harbour City mixed develop*ment in Melaka.
Spanning six acres, Harbour City is a marine-themed development on the reclaimed island of Pulau Melaka, fronting the Straits of Melaka. It comprises a water theme park, touted to be the largest in Melaka when completed, as well as a mall and three hotel blocks. The highly anticipated project was launched in 2015 and slated to be completed in the second quarter of 2020. Construction of the project has screeched to a halt, however, owing to a dispute with its main contractor.
Even with the completion of Harbour City, it may face the challenge of drawing in visitors. As with most large-scale developments in second-tier cities, property experts The Edge spoke to expressed concern over the viability of the sizeable Harbour City project in sleepy Melaka. They believe its local catchment of below one million would not justify the amount being invested in the project.

It looks like the integrated resort (IR) that was out for tender for Osaka is having more delays and doubts thrown at it. The Genting Group have already walked away from the project leaving MGM as the main bidder to create the resort.

MGM President and CEO Bill Hornbuckle revealed that his firm was not committed to moving forward with its multi-billion dollar IR investment at Yumeshima, Osaka.
He also made the oblique but perhaps meaningful comment: “We like the fact that there’s probably going to be a delay in the reopening of some of the conversations that will hopefully make this a better investment for anybody interested in it, most notably us.”

  9. The Riviera Maya in Mexico is getting a new resort. Etéreo, an Auberge Resorts Collection, is scheduled to open in 2021.

Featuring 75 contemporary guesthouses, an Auberge Spa and two dining venues, the resort is a collection of patinaed coral stone structures designed with modern Mayan references and elevated to seemingly float like islands among fields of dense tropical vegetation. The different areas of the resort are laced together by a series of discrete wooden boardwalks and pathways. The enclave, which will have a highly residential feel, will tread lightly on the land and offer stunning ocean views.
