NEOM in Saudi Arabia will be home to the Kingdom’s first Yotel hotel, it has been announced. Yotel will open the doors on the NEOM property in 2025 at the Oxagon development in Saudi Arabia.

Upon check-in, guests at the 300-room hotel will be greeted by the brand’s signature robotic concierge. Guests will also have motorised smart beds, access to Komyuniti – the brand’s signature multi-functional dining and co-working space, a 24-hour fitness centre, network space and more.

Contractors from across the world are gearing up to submit bids for NEOM’s 60 kilometer corridor that connects The Line with the project’s industrial city OXAGON, according to MEED. The last date for bid submission is Sept 11.

According to the MEED report, some of the prospective bidders for the project include Spain’s Acciona, Saudi Arabia’s Al-Khifa Contracting, Al-Yamama Co., Nesma & Partners, Italy’s Webuild, South Korea’s Samsung C&T, and China’s PowerChina.

OXAGON is also known as the New Industrial City, or NIC. The upcoming project includes the design and building of a 60-kilometer-long infrastructure corridor running south from The Line at Neom City Station through Neom Bay Mansions, Neom Bay airport and on to NIC.

NEOM, the sustainable regional development in Saudi Arabia, and flag carrier Saudia have partnered to offer weekly service to international destinations from NEOM Bay Airport (NUM), marking the start of commercial services at the airport.

Saudia will operate direct flights to select regional and international destinations. Saudia will begin with weekly flights to Dubai International Airport by the end of June 2022, with plans to expand to London soon thereafter. Aircraft traveling to the selected destinations will have a joint NEOM-Saudia livery, showcasing the NEOM brand to the world.

NEOM sits at the crossroads of three continents, with 40 per cent of the world accessible within a four-hour flight. NEOM’s mobility strategy will see the further evolution of air travel to NEOM in the coming years, supporting its vision to shape the future of air mobility through seamless and customer-centric connectivity, rooted in cutting-edge technology.

Parsons, a US-based engineering, construction and technical and management services firm, said it has been awarded a key contract by Saudi Neom Company to provide project management support in building its ambitious Oxagon – a reimagined industrial city.

Oxagon is the next phase of Neom’s masterplan and represents a radical new model for future manufacturing centres, based on the $500-billion Saudi futuristic city's strategies of redefining the way humanity lives and works in the future. The onshore development at Oxagon is expected to be completed by 2030 with the aim to have the city’s logistics solutions facilities in place by 2025.

The NEOM company says the megacity will also seek outside investors for the project, which is projected to contribute $48 billion to the Kingdom’s gross domestic product by 2030.

July — NEOM company received tunnel work pre-qualifications for the China Railway Construction Corp. to operate.

September — NEOM invited bids for the construction of 31 km of tunnels. This project is a part of the infrastructure backbone of THE LINE and the deadline for bids is Dec. 30, according to GlobalData’s MEED.

October — NEOM announced technology firm Oracle as the first tenant of its hyper-scale data centre in the megacity. The data center will be based at the meeting point between terrestrial and sub-sea cable cables, allowing it to provide customers with fast and reliable connectivity.

November — the crown prince announced the launch of OXAGON, a floating, eight-sided city, set to be the largest floating industrial complex in the world.
