It has been confirmed that the embankment extending over the sea at the "Great Roof Ring," the symbol of the Osaka-Kansai Expo, has been eroded.
According to the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition, erosion has been identified in approximately 120 meters of the 500-meter inner embankment and about 480 meters of the 600-meter outer embankment. Water was introduced into the inner part of the ring on February 17 this year, and erosion was observed two days later.
(Hiroyuki Warada, Director of the Facilities Maintenance and Management Bureau, Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition)
"Piles have been driven beneath the ring, and concrete beams have also been placed, so the ring itself and the two roads are fundamentally safe."
The association maintains that safety is not compromised due to the presence of 60-meter-long piles embedded underground. However, they aim to complete reinforcement work to prevent further erosion before the Expo's opening.

Swiss pavilion
Designed by Manuel Herz with his Basel-based architecture firm and developed together with design studio Bellprat Partner and the construction company Nüssli, it will have the “smallest possible environmental footprint of Expo 2025”, says Herz. In other words, the pavilion will have a minimal impact on the natural world, from the building phase to the dismantling afterwards.
