The 2025 World Exposition in Osaka will exhibit a dome made out of a new form of carbon-capturing concrete with the potential to make a significant impact in cleaning up the construction sector, which currently accounts for around 40 percent of greenhouse emissions globally.

The construction of the 5.45-meter tall, oval-shaped dome with a width of up to 23 meters comes as the government aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

The dome is expected to be used as a venue for educating the public on environmental issues during the expo, slated for April 13 to Oct. 13 in 2025 on Yumeshima, an artificial island in Osaka Bay, western Japan.

The Federation of Electric Power Companies, which consists of 10 major electric power companies in Japan, unveiled the mascot for its pavilion at the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo on Thursday.

The mascot, a silver egg with white arms and legs, has been named “Kanosei no Tamago” (The Egg of Possibility) after the name of the pavilion, Denryokukan — Kanosei no tamagotachi (Electric Power Pavilion — Eggs of Possibilities).

London studio Woo Architects will employ the principles of a circular economy for its design of the UK Pavilion at the Expo 2025 Osaka, which will have a reversible gridded structure.

The UK Pavilion will be defined by a 10-by-10-metre structural grid, which can be easily deconstructed and moved to a different location following the event in Japan next year.

Kuwait held a groundbreaking ceremony for its pavilion at World Expo 2025 in Osaka on Thursday, a major step in its participation in the upcoming event.

Under the theme of “Visionary Lighthouse”, the Kuwait pavilion, opening in April 2025, will display Kuwait’s history and culture. The Kuwait Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka

The pavilion's audacious architecture was designed by architectural firm LAVA (Laboratory for Visionary Architecture). It picks up on Kuwait's characteristic landscape and tradition and uses them as recurring elements throughout the pavilion. The open and inviting architecture with its opening wings symbolizes a welcoming gesture and stands for the country's famous hospitality.

The pavilion is bright, and its façade illuminated at night, underlining the theme of the "Visionary Lighthouse". The heart of the two-story pavilion with its grand roof is intended to inspire reflection on Kuwait's future. Designed as a central dome, this main space is inspired by the idea of resting in the desert at night under the starry sky. The courtyard at the back of the pavilion is modeled on traditional Islamic architecture and features a beautiful garden with typical Kuwaiti planting.

As part of the preparations for Indonesia's participation in World Expo 2025, the Unveiling Design & Site Handover Ceremony for the Indonesia Pavilion Expo 2025 took place at the Imperial Hotel Osaka, Japan (28/2).

The organizer of the 2025 World Exposition in Osaka has pushed back the construction deadline for pavilions from mid-July to mid-October this year.
About 50 countries have opted to build their own pavilions. But their plans have largely been upended by soaring material costs, a shortage of labor, and difficult negotiations with construction companies.
Only 36 of those countries have secured a contractor. And construction is actually underway for just five pavilions.
