I felt like it was relevant to the overall push for construction around Riyadh to become more business focussed. Guess it could live in Miscelaneous if admin felt that way but new airport etc and other local construction felt like it was relevant here.

Riyadh aims to double in size over the next seven years on the back of $1 trillion infrastructure projects across the Saudi capital in a bid to cater to an ever-increasing population which will soar to 15 million from 7.5 million, said experts ahead of Cityscape Global expo. Following the announcement by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the Saudi capital is set to experience a surge in construction activity with some $12.2 billion of contracts being awarded till date.

A further $18 billion worth of projects are currently at the bidding/evaluation stage with an additional $170 billion to be awarded in the near future, stated the experts.
Its flagship projects include the world’s largest urban development project by the New Square Development Company and the world’s largest new passenger terminal at King Salman International Airport.

Mention of the St. Regis Riyadh on Arab News in the article linked below:

Marina Krasnobrizhaya named GM of St. Regis Riyadh.

“I am delighted to take on this new role and look forward to working with the team to deliver an uncompromising level of bespoke service and exquisite experiences in the city’s best address,” said Krasnobrizhaya.

Owned by Sela, The St. Regis Riyadh is expected to offer 83 guestrooms, including 23 suites, two signature restaurants, an outdoor pool, fitness center and spa. The St. Regis Riyadh will also feature the brand’s signature hallmarks and traditions, including its bespoke butler service and avant-garde style. The property will be a key part of “Via Riyadh,” a luxury mixed-use development with retail and entertainment outlets, located in the main zone of the Riyadh Season — the city’s five-month arts and culture festival.

  6. Best description of what the DQ is all about:

The Diplomatic Quarter, or the DQ as it is popularly known, is home to foreign embassies and international organizations as well as residential areas and their services. With lush greenery and prime examples of contextual architecture, the area has become Saudi Arabia’s most accomplished work of “green architecture” and a model for other new Islamic communities around the world.

The DQ turned out an outstanding neighborhood. Its character is strongly influenced by elegant landscape design, green roads, and elaborate roundabouts. Pathways, seating areas and picnic places are positioned to take full advantage of views into the Wadi Hanifa, to give sunset views, and to catch cool evening breezes. For sports, there are walkways and jogging paths, bicycle paths, sports center, and sports fields.

The landscaping of the entire project has been planned as a self-sustaining ecological system, using, where appropriate, plant materials to be found in the surrounding desert environment. The Aga Khan Award jury found the landscaping to be “a realistic and imaginative understanding of the natural and spatial organisation in hot and arid regions.”

  7. Curious, why is this project/district listed here on resortX?

Are there any ongoing renovations/expansions, or big plans for the future?
