Exclusive: Saudi Arabia suspends work on massive Mukaab megaproject, sources say

Jan 27 (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia has suspended planned construction of a colossal cube-shaped skyscraper at the center of a downtown development in Riyadh while it reassesses the project's financing and feasibility, four people familiar with the matter said.

Also delayed is the world's largest downtown district, New Murabba in Riyadh.

The new development, set to house 300,000 people, is now set to be opened by 2040, though this may be pushed back even further, according to Michael Dyke, New Murabba's chief executive.

He told the Times: 'We took a decision to slow down before speeding up. The worst thing is to make lots of fanfare only to find that you don't have substance behind it'.

Additionally, the appointment of KPF as Lead Design Consultant for the first residential community reflects New Murabba’s commitment to global design excellence. KPF will lead the early design stages, focusing on sustainable urban planning, architecture, and smart-city integration.
