Singapore will be among the first countries to start building its pavilion for the Osaka World Expo. Construction of the Singapore Pavilion is expected to begin in January 2024, Carrie Kwik, executive director for World Expo and Special Projects at the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), told The Straits Times on Dec 11. This comes after the Osaka City government granted STB a temporary building permit on Dec 1, she said.

Canada has unveiled its pavilion concept for Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, which will embrace the natural cycles of Canada’s seasons. The design team includes Rayside Labossière architects and architect Guillaume Pelletier.

The organizers of the 2025 World Exposition in Osaka, western Japan, have invited the media to the construction site of the Grand Roof, the symbol of the venue.

The Grand Roof, also called the Ring, was unveiled to the media on Monday, showing the progress in its construction. Three consortiums have been commissioned to take part in the project.

When completed, the Ring will be one of the world's largest wooden structures with a circumference of 2 kilometers and a height of between 12 and 20 meters.

The pavilion is made from low carbon materials, includes energy saving luminaires, adopts rainwater recycling and incorporates photovoltaic technologies that generate electricity. The project aims to achieve the Japanese green building rating system’s highest level and is on track to achieve the Net Zero Operational Carbon target. In addition, the addition of a series of WELL design principles will uplift the occupants’ health and wellbeing. ‘Creating a legacy for the pavilion, once the Expo comes to an end, has been central to the design process. The structure’s cladding is made from lightweight Saudi stone and designed to be efficiently deconstructed and reassembled, or completely reconfigured, to meet different requirements in a future location,’ adds F+P partner Tony Miki. This inherent flexibility will significantly extend the lifespan of the pavilion and enhances its sustainable credentials.

The mass production of "flying cars" to provide visitors with air taxi services at the 2025 World Exposition in Osaka is unlikely to be completed in time for the event's opening due to delays in safety certification, four operators involved in the project have said.
Japan had planned for the air taxi service to be among the expo's main attractions, with the two- to five-seater vehicles expected to provide access to the event's venue, set up on the artificial Yumeshima island in Osaka Bay.

Osaka Gov. Hirofumi Yoshimura is seeking to use the expo as an opportunity to introduce the idea of flying cars being implemented into society, but with safety hurdles not yet cleared and with only around a year and a half left until the expo opens, a limited number of aircraft are expected to be operational in time.

The construction costs for the 2025 World Exposition in the western Japanese city of Osaka are now expected to reach up to 235 billion yen (about 1.57 billion U.S. dollars), nearly 1.9 times the original estimate.
The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition, the organizer of the event, informed relevant parties on Friday of the new estimate. This is the second time the venue construction cost estimate has been raised.
