  6. In February 2026, Anwar Gargash, diplomatic advisor to the UAE president, revealed on X that the project is “nearing completion” with its opening anticipated for 2026.
A resplendent architectural masterpiece, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi was designed by Pritzker-prize-winning architect Frank Gehry.

For the project, Gehry drew inspiration from the surrounding landscape. For instance, the asymmetric cones on the exterior of the museum were inspired by the UAE’s traditional wind towers. These cones will act as entrances to the museum and exterior exhibition spaces.

The museum will have 28 galleries with a total of 12,080 square metres of interior space, and an additional 23,000 square metres of exterior exhibition spaces in atrium, plazas and terraces encircling the building.
The museum will feature the work of artists from all across the globe in a variety of mediums. The emphasis will be on modern and contemporary art, housing work produced since the turn of the 1960s to the present.

The photo is taken by me.

From outside, the building looks like a stack of cones and cubes, similar to bonfire wood — a tribute to the roots of the Emirates, a time when people would gather around the fire to tell stories and bond with the community.
