President Prabowo Subianto has approved new designs for the IKN legislative and judicial district, envisioned as Indonesia’s new strategic decision-making hub with a strong, monumental character, targeting completion by end-2027 or Q1 2028.

OIKN Head Basuki Hadimuljono highlighted presidential emphasis on bold, upright architecture reflecting national authority, refined in early 2026 post-contracts (late 2025) and benchmarked against Turkey, India, and Egypt for functionality and identity.

MPR Chair Ahmad Muzani praised the elevated site’s comfort and grandeur during a site visit, noting tangible progress like the airport, VP Palace, and State Mosque already standing. This approval marks a key step toward modern governance by 2028.

    Development Scope
    - House of Representatives (DPR) Building
    - Regional Representative Council (DPD) Building
    - People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Building
    - Supreme Court (MA) Building
    - Constitutional Court (MK) Building
    - Other supporting facilities[1]

    Target Completion: Year 2027

    Design Concept
    - Modern and representative design.
    - Reflects national identity and Indonesia's democratic system.
    - Integrated within the IKN government district.

    Strategic Goals
    - Accelerate the relocation of the central government to IKN.
    - Establish more integrated government management.
    - Support equitable national development

Nusantara, Indonesia’s future capital, is developing an integrated education zone alongside housing and public services as authorities work to ensure schools are operational before residents and civil servants fully relocate, officials said.

Head of the Nusantara Capital Authority (Otorita Ibu Kota Nusantara/OIKN) Basuki Hadimuljono said education facilities are being constructed in parallel with other supporting infrastructure in the Core Government Center Area (KIPP).

“Education facilities are being developed at the same time as other essential services in the KIPP,” Basuki said on Sunday during a visit to Sepaku, Penajam Paser Utara District, East Kalimantan.

He explained that the approach is designed to allow residential occupancy and social activities to proceed simultaneously, ensuring Nusantara develops as a livable city rather than merely an administrative hub.

After years of planning and construction, Indonesia’s new capital city is set to be inaugurated on August 17, despite the fact that the site remains an active construction zone. The new city of Nusantara, on the island of Borneo, will replace Jakarta as the national capital, moving the seat of government about 800 miles away. The decades-long project covering hundreds of square miles will cost about $33 billion, according to estimates by the administration of Indonesian President Joko Widodo. The stated reasons for the move include alleviating overcrowding in Jakarta and moving the capital to a more central location within the Indonesian archipelago.
