Neom, the developer of Saudi Arabia's mega futuristic city project Neom, has signed a strategic agreement with General Hotel Management (GHM), the creator of stylish hotels and resorts worldwide, to manage The Chedi Trojena, a unique perennial mountain destination in the kingdom and host venue of the 2029 Asian Winter Games.

Nestled within the Slope Residences atop the mountain peaks, The Chedi Trojena will be part of an iconic residential village in one of Trojena’s six distinctive clusters: Gateway, Discover, Valley, Explore, Relax and Fun.

Construction on Trojena began last month and Neom expects to welcome its first guests in 2026.

In its aim to become a hub for world-class tourism and recreation never before offered in the Gulf countries, the mountain destination will also feature 30km of ski slopes for visitors of all ages and levels, ultra-luxury and wellness hotels and resorts as well as over 100 indoor and outdoor experiences available all year-round.

To answer the questions about snow... Here are some of the construction workers this week experiencing snow in KSA. It's unusual at sea level but they are working in the mountains where Trojena will be placed.

Chairman of the NEOM Company Board and Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman has revealed the Trojena Mega Tourism Project that will deliver a tourist destination consisting of a series of facilities including but not limited to wellness resorts, a broad spectrum of retail stores as well as restaurants, a ski village, and an ultra-luxury family resort, all spread across six districts namely; Discover, Valley, Relax, Gateway, Explore, and Fun.

There are mountains where it does snow however it is far too inconsistent and sparse to guarantee enough snow for a ski resort. They will have to create their own snow like some of the more famous ski resorts do at the beginning and end of their natural ski seasons.

The mountains are high enough with Jabal Al Lawz reaching approx 2,500 metres which is comparable to the Alpine ski resorts in Europe but obviously the overall climate is very different.
