The European tender for the Netherlands Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka has officially been launched with its publication on tenderned.nl. Market parties are being asked to come up with proposals for the design, construction, maintenance and dismantling of the pavilion and visitor experience.
Under the title ‘Common Ground: A Dutch invitation to create healthy societies together’, a multi-year campaign has been launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, working towards Expo 2025 Osaka. Japan, like the Netherlands, faces pressing and complex challenges, including climate change, urbanisation, demographic ageing, the energy transition, food security, keeping healthcare accessible and ensuring the population’s wellbeing. These are all important areas in which the Netherlands has a wealth of knowledge and expertise.

Luxembourg have revealed their plans for the Japan 2025 pavilion.

We have decided to position the Luxembourg pavilion at the world expo in Osaka under the sub-theme ‘Connecting lives’ and that is what we will try to achieve: connect the visitors of the world expo with the people in Luxembourg, connect Japan with the grand duchy.

An artist’s rendition of the ring-shaped wooden roof to symbolize the 2025 Osaka Kansai Expo

The canopy, which will protect visitors to pavilions from sunlight and rain, will have a diameter of 675 meters and span an area of 60,000 square meters, the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition said July 13. The grand roof will be supported by the traditional “nuki” technique of joining horizontal beams and vertical pillars, which was used for the famed wooden stage at Kiyomizudera temple in Kyoto. An estimated 20,000 cubic meters of timber will be utilized.

Interesting article about the future locations bidding for Expo hosting duties and some recent announcements about Japan.

With fewer than 1000 days to go till opening, 130 countries and regions have confirmed participation in Expo 2025, putting it close to its goal of 150. By way of comparison, the past two world’s fairs on this scale were Dubai 2020 (192 participants), and Milan 2015 (145 participants).

Organizers of the EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan plan to charge 6,000 yen ($44) per adult for admission, up 20 percent from its initial estimate, according to sources.

The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition wants the increase to ensure there are sufficient funds to cover the cost of operating the six-month event if visitor numbers do not reach the envisaged target. The association’s initial goal was 28.2 million visitors. But it is in the middle of reviewing the number.
The association plans to begin selling tickets in July 2023.

The 6,000 yen ticket will be available for 5,000 yen as a “super early bird rate” until June 2024. After that, it can be purchased for 5,500 yen with the “early bird discount” until April 12, 2025. The price will drop to 3,300 yen during the period after the April 2025 opening until the end of the Golden Week holiday period in early May, when hordes of visitors are not expected.

  10. The Japan World Expo 2025 Association plans to deploy next-generation mobility services as well as a virtual exposition in a metaverse where people may participate via avatars. The sixth-generation network should be able to accommodate such services.

According to Nikkei, Nippon Telegraph & Telephone is planning to create a trial 6G network to serve the 2025 World Expo site in Osaka. Indeed, intentions are to commercialize the technology by the end of the decade. NTT West President Mitsuyoshi Kobayashi told Nikkei in a recent interview that the group has already started designing the network’s fundamental infrastructure. Details will be finalized in April, when the fiscal year begins.
