An extension on a construction permit related to Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge was also recently received by Walt Disney World. Lakeside Lodge, a Disney Vacation Club resort that was thought canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, could now be used for the construction of the new Fort Wilderness Cabins.

Bottom right is Tri-Circle-D Ranch.
In 2020 Disney removed the announcement about Reflections from their 2019 list of D23 Expo announcements with no further explanations. In 2021 Walt Disney Imagineering issued a permit to remove construction offices from Reflections:
Source: https://wdwnt.com/2021/04/permit-filed-to-remove-construction-offices-from-reflections-a-disney-lakeside-lodge/The permit is to “remove office trailers from property” at multiple addresses connected to construction. If construction offices are being removed, that is strong evidence for the resort project being delayed indefinitely or canceled entirely, since construction would be nowhere near completion.
Seems like the resort was cancelled to make way for new multi-level Disney Vacation Club wing (info is not officially supported).

This announcement comes after the news that Spirit of Aloha was permanently closed, likely to make room for the new wing. The design, as seen in the concept art below, is reminiscent of the canceled Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge project.
That's how Reflections were supposed to look like:
That is a new DVC wing concept:

Disney has not given any official statement regarding Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge.
With all of the hectic changes happening at Walt Disney World due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, this project has been silently pushed to the side. Reflections- A Disney Lakeside Lodge which had already begun construction has had no updates — or even a mention — from Disney in a very long time. The project was postponed indefinitely, or possibly canceled entirely, in the wake of Disney’s budget cuts.
Work was halted on the resort in April / May despite permits being filed related to construction. At the time, the old River Country water park site had been demolished and the land had been prepared for the new hotel. Overall, it looks like Disney cleared and prepared the land before pulling the plug on the project.
