Lina Ghotmeh—Architecture Unveils the Kingdom of Bahrain National Pavilion at The Expo Osaka 2025 Japan

he Bahrain Pavilion is designed by the Lebanese French architect Lina Ghotmeh with her Paris based studio Lina Ghotmeh—Architecture and is located in the "Empowering Lives" area facing the sea.

The design draws inspiration from traditional Bahraini dhow boats, reinterpreting millennial boat building techniques that showcase Bahrain’s rich craftsmanship and manufacturing heritage, alongside Japanese wood artistry- in a celebration of the bilateral relations between both countries.

The pavilion will be constructed out of wood, with an outer structure made of aluminum, aligning with Bahrain's vision to promote sustainability, and will be fully recycled after the Expo.
The interior design and exhibition will be led by the Bahraini design studio Shepherd Studio, with the Artistic direction of Lina Ghotmeh offering an immersive experience for visitors highlighting Bahrain’s rich maritime, logistical and natural resources. Additionally, Bahrain's participation in the Expo will include a dedicated business space to promote Bahrain's competitiveness regionally and globally as a forward-looking economy, investment, and business destination for visitors from all over the world.

The project "Makün: The Mantle of Chile" was selected as the winning proposal to develop the interior architecture and façade for the Chilean pavilion at the Universal Exposition 2025, to be held in Osaka (Japan) between April 13 and October 13 next year.

The proposal of "Makün: The Mantle of Chile" proposes to structure a textile pavilion through a mantle made by 200 Chilean weavers from La Araucanía (from five different communities in that region), which will be taken to Japan to be installed in the pavilion. " Makün" is a word of Mapuche origin that means mantle or blanket (protective garment) that appeals to the traditional textile culture of the Mapuche people.

    Poland Pavilion

The architectural design is based on the use of wood, with an organic form thanks to arches and curves. The design of the expressive wooden facade based on Kigumi Koho, a traditional timber joining technique, is an homage to traditional Polish and Japanese architecture.
The form resembles a spreading wave of creativity and innovation of Poles.
Poland will be presented as a country, the main resource of which are its people - creative, open-minded, educated, imaginative and brave in their thought and effort.

The pavilion, will be located at the West Entrance and Earth Plaza, aims to interpret Serbian culture and the country’s natural landscape through architectural expression. The design strategy also aligns with the theme “Play for humanity” of the upcoming Specialised Expo 2027 to be held in Belgrade.
