The Grand Staircase in the #GrandEgyptianMuseum is open! 90 Statues, Pillars and Columns will take visitors into the history of Ancient Egypt. Artefacts include the red granite colossus of King Seti I, Queen Hatshepsut and the Roman Emperor Caracalla.

Exciting News from the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza!

After two decades of dedicated work, this architectural marvel is nearing completion. As of October 2023, the museum is reportedly 100% finished, with only the transfer of remaining artifacts pending. Although there's no exact opening date yet, officials anticipate the inauguration by the end of 2023 or early 2024, with some sources suggesting a grand opening in spring 2024.

The museum should feature 12 exhibition halls. Inside, the museum’s soaring atrium is marked by a 36-foot-tall, 3,200-years-old statue of the Egyptian Pharaoh Rameses II.

The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) will be a spectacular addition to Egypt’s attractions – when it finally opens. Built close to the Giza pyramids, when finished it will be one of the largest museums in the world. The entire Tutankhamun collection will be housed together for the first time, together with many favourite objects, such as Khufu’s solar boat. The plan is to have three museums in Cairo presenting the treasures of ancient Egypt: the old Cairo Museum in Tahrir Square will remain open; the Royal Mummies can be seen at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation; and the new GEM will showcase a new collection.

Building the GEM has been a challenge. The foundation stone was laid in 2002, with an expected completion date around 2012. However, the various uprisings and COVID-19 pandemic led to repeated delays and, at the time of writing in mid-2023, there is still no official opening date. But in early 2023 the GEM began trialling a ‘soft opening’. Visitors can book a timeslot on the GEM website to attend a tour (in English or Arabic) of the interior atrium of the museum, although with no access to the actual galleries.

Egypt Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Ahmed Essa, held an expanded video conference meeting on Sunday in the presence of the general supervisor of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) project and the surrounding area Atef Moftah, as part of a weekly follow-up on the project.

So apparently the Grand Egyptian Museum will be completed in coming months. Not much is known for now as the organizers prefer to keep the project away from the spotlight.
