Hundreds of people have gathered in Morecambe for a landmark community celebration marking a pivotal moment for Eden Project Morecambe, as the project moves from planning towards construction beginning this August.

Held at the Winter Gardens – one of Eden Project Morecambe’s closest neighbours on the central promenade and on the seafront where the new Eden will be built – the community event brought together residents, partners, stakeholders and supporters to reflect on the journey so far and look ahead to the next phase of what will become a major new cultural landmark for the North West.

The event marked a defining “before construction” moment with the Morecambe community coming together on the cusp of transformation to celebrate being part of something that will shape the town for generations to come. The celebration, on Wednesday, 24 June, follows a period of significant momentum for the project. Planning permission was granted in February 2026, VINCI Building was appointed as main contractor in April, and in May the project gained national attention at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show with the award-winning Bring Me Sunshine Garden co-designed by garden designer Harry Holding, architect Alex Michaelis and young adults from Morecambe.

In June, a further boost came as £4.5 million was raised through the Omaze Million-Pound House Prize Draw, helping secure the project’s striking central exhibit, The Elder Tree.

New images of how parts of the Eden Project Morecambe could look like have been unveiled.

Described as a "global garden", the attraction will feature three large shell-shaped pavilions overlooking Morecambe Bay.

The release of artist's impressions of the seaside attraction comes as it was announced John Pye would be project director for the development with a new external design team also appointed.

The Eden Project Morecambe, previously known as Eden Project North, has been awarded £50m as part of the British Government’s Levelling Up Fund. The project is currently finalising the remaining funds as part of the bidding process.

It has also been announced by Lancashire County Council that preparatory groundwork will begin to take place.

Lancashire's forthcoming Eden Project eco-tourism attraction has received a funding boost of up to £2.5m.

The money will come from the last government's Levelling Up funding.

It will be used to secure external contractors to further develop the designs for the project ahead of the construction phase.

Hundreds of people attended an Eden Project event in Morecambe, where exhibitions, presentations and small workshops highlighted key themes proposed for the new venue.

The two-day gathering, known as Rhythm Makers, took place at Morecambe Winter Gardens.

Eden Project Morecambe has said the town and its people were central to discussions.

Organisers said they wanted people’s honest views and ideas – positive or negative.
