The company, known as TRSDC, which until now was focusing on execution and delivery of three hotels, has shifted gears and turned its attention toward operations. It has already hired the first general manager of one of the three hotels and is identifying top executives for the other two hotels, Jay Rosen told Arab News.

We are at the starting point of the pre-opening process as we ramp up our operations over the next 12 months,” said the executive while adding that they remain on schedule to welcome first guests by next year.

Gillespies is providing the landscape design throughout the airport, crafting internal and external gardens that will offer visitors a tranquil respite before taking off or driving on to the resort. The gardens mimic the organic form of the building, bring the beauty of Saudi Arabia’s colourful and textured landscapes into the heart of the building, with a mix of local and native species that aim to enrich the experience and wellbeing of travellers.

The use of local and native species will reduce the overall water consumption of the project, which aims for LEED Platinum. Extensive research and environmental modelling of the internal garden environments ensured the most responsible and appropriate mix of plants were specified for the scheme. In contrast, the harsher outer environment dictated a rich and diverse yet resilient mix of exclusively native species.

Interesting interview with interior designer Paolo Ferrari which includes some information about the Desert Rock Resort which is part of the Red Sea Project.

Guests enter the site through a hidden valley nestled between the mountains, with public access and guestrooms fully integrated into the landscape, preserving uninterrupted views. As the sole interior designer for the project, we were tasked with creating a highly sensitive and sustainable design for the resort including all guestrooms, public spaces, F&B, spa, and fitness. The design direction was guided by our concept of quiet monumentality, and throughout the project, we prioritized vistas and celebrated the guest’s connection to the site’s sublime and majestic beauty. It’s quite an ask to create a design language for a part of the world where this type of resort has never existed. We were also awarded the project in the summer of 2020 during the height of the pandemic and completed the entire project remotely. Kicking off a project of this ambition and scale, virtually, came with its challenges, but we leaned into the constraints of collaborating remotely and I’m extremely proud of what our team accomplished.
