Gary Safady, a real estate developer and movie producer, has filed plans to build a 58-room hotel on a 33-acre hillside at 9704-9712 West Oak Road in Beverly Crest, the Los Angeles Times reported. The vision for the Bulgari Resort Los Angeles and eight single family homes has drawn fire from movie executives and celebrities who have squared off over the future of one of L.A.’s richest neighborhoods.
A planning committee meeting is scheduled this week to decide on a zoning change needed to build a commercial project in the residential area. A final approval would be required from the Los Angeles City Council.
If completed, The Bulgari would be one of eight hotels operated by a hospitality firm under LVMH, a French holding company created by the merger of fashion house Louis Vuitton and Moët Hennessy. The maximum occupancy of the hotel would be 715 people, including 130 employees per shift, according to city records.

Dara Sakor International Airport in Koh Kong province’s Botum Sakor district is set to conduct flight trials in July, according to the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation.
The flight validation or flight testing has been conducted since April 19 and will be completed next week, SSCA’s undersecretary of state and spokesman Sinn Chansereyvutha said yesterday. After these procedures, flight trials are set to be conducted in July this year, he said.

Italian studio Stefano Boeri Architetti has adapted its Vertical Forest concept for a pair of skyscrapers in Dubai, which will be covered in thousands of trees. Revealed by Stefano Boeri Architetti yesterday at the COP27 climate change conference in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, the project comprises two tapering towers at 190 and 150 metres tall.

Together, they will integrate 2,640 trees and 27,600 shrubs on the facades, along with "a system of greenhouses and hydroponic gardens", the studio said. Hydroponic gardens are engineered to grow plants in a vertical formation using water-based, mineral nutrient solutions in place of soil.

With 900 days until the opening of the next World Expo, the meeting provided an opportunity for Expo Organizers, officials from the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), and representatives of participating countries and international organizations to review progress and ongoing preparations for the event. Following on from Expo 2020 Dubai and the gradual lifting of travel restrictions related to COVID-19, this first large-scale gathering of all key stakeholders in Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai marks a key step in the journey towards the next World Expo.
Representatives of over 100 countries participated in the first International Planning Meeting ahead of Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai.

The Meeting is the first of several to be held before the opening of the Expo on April 13, 2025, as host country and participants cooperate around the development of the Expo’s pavilions, content and experience. Dedicated sessions took place October 25 and 26 with regard to the development of the Expo’s theme, “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” as well as more technical aspects relating to the Master Plan, pavilion construction, logistics and operations, as well as participation in the Virtual Expo.
The signature of these agreements is possible once details about each country’s pavilion is defined, including the theme as well as the size and location of the pavilion. The nine countries are the very first to reach this stage among the 142 countries having thus far confirmed their presence.

Travellers hoping to visit Dubai’s much-anticipated Atlantis The Royal have a little longer to wait until they can check-in to the five-star resort.

The ultra-luxury waterfront hotel will open to guests in the first quarter of next year. A grand reveal weekend that was set to take place in November has been postponed until late January. An email sent to The National on Wednesday said that the mega hotel was dealing with construction interruptions.

The public opening had already been announced for early next year but media, influencers, special guests and celebrities had been set to descend upon Palm Jumeirah's newest hotel for a sneak-peek VIP weekend next month.
The preview weekend also promised to include an after-party DJ’d by The Chainsmokers, fashion and styling events co-hosted by Valentino, the launch of the first Nobu on the beach and appearances by celebrity chefs Heston Blumenthal and Jose Andres, both of whom are set to open restaurants at the hotel.

Designed by New York City’s Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, the 43-storey cantilevered hotel will now hold its "grand reveal" weekend on January 20. Organisers promise “the magnitude of the weekend event will remain as planned”.

This project is now getting a little confusing.

There is some land reclamation going on in the bay BUT it looks like it's another project - Horizon Manila. And that project would make it difficult to build "City of Pearl" as they would essentially be in the same bay space either side of the current jetties shown in both sets of concept art.

Does anyone know which project this reclamation is for? This video says it's for City of Pearl but also shows the horizons website and I could do with a translation if somebody could give it a listen and work out what the deal is?

This is the horizon project - https://horizon-manila.com/
You can see the space behind it is where the City of Pearl is meant to be going...

The estimated cost of the Osaka Pavilion at the world expo set to take place here in 2025 has soared yet again to reach 11.5 billion yen (roughly $80 million) after earlier ballooning to 10 billion yen (about $68.6 million).

It was originally estimated the pavilion would cost 7.3 billion yen (about $50 million). As the Osaka prefectural and municipal governments will face a heavier financial burden to cover the additional expenses, the prefectural government submitted a supplementary budget proposal to the Osaka Prefectural Assembly on Oct. 11.
Officials considered changing the shape of the roof to lower expenses, and Osaka Gov. Hirofumi Yoshimura said Sept. 16 he had heard the cost would somehow be kept down to 10 billion yen.

However, at that stage the actual cost of construction was estimated to be 11 billion yen (around $75.5 million), and 10 billion yen was said to be only a "rough estimate." In the end the estimated cost came to some 4 billion yen (approximately $27.5 million) more than the original estimate. An additional cost of approximately 2 billion yen (about $13.7 million) was included in the prefectural government's supplementary budget. Negotiations to reduce the cost further will be made in the future with Takenaka Corp.

It's not quite the Burj Khalifa but... Zanzibar is building the Burj Zanzibar, the worlds tallest timber building.

The Indian Ocean island of Zanzibar is planning the highest green building in the world, a 28-story apartment tower designed in hybrid timber technology.

Named Burj Zanzibar – “burj” meaning tower in Arabic – the spectacular high-rise is designed to reach 96 metres in height. Dubbed “vertical green village”, it would represent an iconic landmark not only for the island but for the whole of Africa and a global environmental milestone, being the first timber structure worldwide of such proportions.

The design of the mixed-use apartment and commercial building, in a playful beehive style with breathtaking ocean views, was unveiled to the public in Muscat, Oman on 1 October. Dutch-born architect Leander Moons, responsible for the concept, said: “Burj Zanzibar is not just an outstanding building but a new ecosystem for the future of living”.
With turquoise seas, white sandy beaches and a UNESCO-protected historic Stone Town, Zanzibar recorded 15% annual growth in tourism in recent years and 6.8% economic growth. Earlier this year, the semi-autonomous archipelago, 35 kilometres off the coast of Tanzania, stretched its wings also into another direction, launching an initiative to attract African tech companies with a total worth of six billion dollars.
