Three times, Dennis Uy’s PH Resorts Group tried and failed to find an investor for its Emerald Bay casino resort in the Philippines.

Would-be saviours included Tiger Resort Leisure & Entertainment Inc, which operates Okada Manila; Enrique Razon’s Bloomberry Resorts; and Philippine developer AppleOne Group. Those deals all came and went.

The lender has just announced it will sell the real estate under the idle development, putting the future of Emerald Bay in question.

According to the Philippine Inquirer, Chinabank Chairman Hans Sy said “a couple of interested parties” are looking at the 30-acre beachfront tract. He did not identify potential buyers.

Now, with the expiration of its leaseback deal with PHR, Chinabank is ready to dispose of the real estate.

“We gave Dennis a chance to redeem,” Sy told reporters. “Of course, they asked for an extension. But we already gave them more than a year. It’s already in our name.… We’re not renewing anymore.”

Suntrust Resort Holdings, the Philippine-listed unit of Hong Kong’s LET Group Holdings, says it will open Westside City in the fourth quarter of 2025. In the works since 2019, the complex was initially slated to open in 2022 but has been delayed numerous times.

The $1.1 billion (£834 million/€969 million) project spans 31 hectares (310,000 square metres) along Manila Bay. Westside City will feature a 475-key five-star hotel, spa and wellness centre, 500-person capacity ballroom, 3,000-seat performance hall and ample meeting and convention space.

The gaming floor will offer 281 tables, 134 EGMs and more than 1,100 slot machines serving both mass and VIP players.

The construction of the integrated resort (IR) MGM Osaka kicked off on Thursday, April 24th, in Osaka, at a location adjacent to the 2025 World Expo venue.

“This would be Japan’s first IR. We’d like to bring economic growth to Osaka and Japan,” Osaka Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura stated during the groundbreaking ceremony hosted by the project’s operator, Osaka IR KK, according to Kyodo News.

The total investment is projected at up to JPY1.6 trillion ($10 billion), positioning it among the world’s most expensive integrated resorts. According to planning documents, the facility will feature 2,500 hotel rooms, a shopping mall, a 3,500-seat theater, spa and fitness center, convention facilities, and diverse dining and entertainment options. Japanese law limits the gaming floor to 3 percent of the total indoor space. The project has already secured a $3.4 billion loan as part of its financing.

Does anybody know about the construction progress on the Oblisco Capitale tower? Has construction started yet?

What I’ve read is that construction is supposed to commence in 2025. I saw a post or two online claiming that it started in November 2024, but nothing official has been confirmed. I didn’t find anything myself. I know it’s supposed to be in the CBD. Does anyone have a master plan of the CBD to see where the Oblisco Capitale Tower is supposed to be?

On February 19th, Cairo time, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly visited the New Capital CBD project, accompanied by Housing Minister Sherif El-Sherbiny, Deputy Minister Ahmed Abdel Razek, and other officials. ✨🏝

During the visit, Dr. Madbouly and the delegation toured the residential tower D03, explored the model apartment units on the 43rd floor. They also inspected the CUC Energy Center and the model serviced apartments on the 47th floor of the Iconic Tower. The Prime Minister praised the project's progress and high-quality execution!
