Melco Resorts & Entertainment, a leading global developer, owner and operator of integrated resort facilities, today held a topping out ceremony and unveiled the design concept for the highly anticipated Studio City Phase 2, scheduled to complete before end of December 2022. The Ceremony was hosted by Lawrence Ho, Chairman and CEO of Melco Resorts & Entertainment, together with representatives from Melco to celebrate the new start of Studio City.

Designed by renowned international architecture firm Zaha Hadid Architects, the USD 1.3 billion Studio City Phase 2 complex further complements the integrated resort’s existing Phase 1, which features a modern interpretation of the rich detailing, bold geometries and craftsmanship of the Art Deco period. The thrilling new entertainment and leisure destination will offer one of Asia’s largest indoor & outdoor water parks, a six-screen Cineplex comprising two regular houses and four VIP suites, as well as a state-of-the-art MICE space.

Mr. Lawrence Ho, Chairman and CEO of Melco Resorts & Entertainment, said, “Melco has a strong track record of contributing to Macau’s ongoing development as a world center of leisure tourism. Studio City Phase 2 reaffirms our ongoing commitment to the city and contributes to reinforcing Macau’s non-gaming proposition in Asia and internationally. We are grateful for the support of the Central and Macau governments during the project construction.”

Mr. David Sisk, Chief Operating Officer of Macau Resorts, Melco, said, “Since opening in 2015, Studio City has become a destination landmark in Macau with its unique entertainment theme and experience. The extension project will complement our existing offering of ‘next-generation’ world-class entertainment and further enhance the distinctive Studio City experience.”

With a total gross floor area of approximately 250,000 square meters, Studio City Phase 2 is located in the Cotai area of Macau, comprising two luxury hotel towers with 900 rooms and suites, a retail complex of over 21,000 square meters and gaming space of over 2,300 square meters. It has also been named winner of the ‘Regional Award, Asia’ at BREEAM Awards 2021 in recognition of its incorporation of sustainable building design, development and management. Studio City Phase 2 is progressing on track for completion before December 27, 2022.

The Red Sea Development Company (TRSDC), the developer behind the world’s most ambitious regenerative tourism project, has announced the signing of nine hotel management agreements with international hotel brands to operate resorts in the first phase of development at The Red Sea Project.

The agreements were unveiled on Day 2 of the Future Investment Initiative (FII) 2021, with the collection of hospitality brands set to operate nine of the 16 properties currently under development in the first phase and collectively feature more than 1,700 hotel keys of the total 3000 planned for Phase One.

These include EDITION Hotels and St Regis Hotels & Resorts, part of Marriott International; Fairmont Hotel & Resorts, Raffles Hotels & Resorts and SLS Hotels & Residences, part of global hospitality group Accor; Grand Hyatt, part of Hyatt Hotels Corporation; Intercontinental Hotels & Resorts and Six Senses, part of IHG Hotels & Resorts; and Jumeirah Hotels & Resorts, a global luxury hospitality company.
Each brand at The Red Sea Project has embraced the vision of the project and have agreed to work together to collaborate in making the destination a success. The partners have welcomed the industry-pioneering sustainability standards of TRSDC and the broader commitment towards regenerative tourism development.

?“Hospitality is the anchor of The Red Sea Project. We are determined to create a world-class luxury destination and the hotel brands we partner with play a crucial role in delivering on this ambition. Our partnerships are cemented through a collaborative framework that emphasize synchronicity between all brands. In doing so, we aim to create more value and maximize destination success, empowering stakeholders to benefit from shared best practices and economies of scale,” said Jay Rosen, Chief Financial Officer at TRSDC.
“The hotel management agreements unveiled today mark a significant milestone for us and we welcome more hotel operators, developers and investors to join us in our journey to build a thriving destination for visitors from around the world.”

The Red Sea Project’s first phase of development is on track for completion by the end of 2023, with a total of 16 hotels set to offer 3,000 hotel rooms across five islands and two inland sites. TRSDC expects to announce additional international hotel brand partnerships in the coming months.

Fontainebleau Development, which designs, builds, owns, and operates premier hospitality, commercial, retail, and luxury properties, is targeting fourth quarter of 2023 for the opening of its recently acquired 67-story, vertically integrated luxury resort and casino at 2777 S. Las Vegas Blvd. The property has commenced construction and will open under the name Fontainebleau Las Vegas, a monumental expansion that brings full circle the company’s longtime vision of hosting its iconic brand on the Las Vegas Strip.

“We are grateful to have the opportunity to finish what we started and finally introduce the iconic Fontainebleau brand into one of the world’s largest hospitality destinations,” says Fontainebleau Development Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Soffer. “We have been extremely selective when it comes to expanding our brand. Las Vegas has always been our number one choice.

“The building is in mint condition, and we have already commenced construction. We are excited to make this dream a reality.”

Fontainebleau Development and partner Koch Real Estate Investments acquired the property at 2777 S. Las Vegas Blvd in February 2021. The project is 75 percent complete, and, upon opening, Fontainebleau Development will be the sole hotel operator of Fontainebleau Las Vegas.

“Our goal at Koch Real Estate Investments is to partner with best-in-class management teams that have the drive and vision to bring unique solutions to each community in which we have a presence, and we’ve done that here with the Fontainebleau Development team," says Jake Francis, President of Koch Real Estate Investments. "Our partnership was forged from our combined belief in Las Vegas, not just as a destination but as a global brand where people from all over the world come together to enjoy world class venues, entertainment, and nightlife.”

The property spans 25 acres and approximately nine million square feet in a coveted location on the north end of the Las Vegas Strip, directly adjacent to the Las Vegas Convention Center and the Las Vegas Global Business District.

“The Las Vegas tourism industry has shown incredible resiliency throughout the last two years, and we believe our target opening date allows us to perfect our vision while positioning Fontainebleau Las Vegas for success in a new era of growth and visitation,” says Fontainebleau Development President Brett Mufson. “This represents not only an investment in real estate, but also an investment in the community, and we look forward to having a positive presence and impact on Las Vegas for generations to come.”

Fontainebleau Development has retained acclaimed Las Vegas builder Richardson Construction to complete construction of the property, and the company will announce additional design and development partners in the coming months. Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment is out:

In October 2020, a consortium among two wholly owned unrestricted subsidiaries of the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority d/b/a Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment (the “Company”) and GEK Terna Holding Real Estate Construction S.A. (“GEK Terna”) of Greece was selected by the Hellenic Gaming Commission (the “Commission”) as the provisional contractor to develop an integrated resort and casino near Athens, Greece (the “Athens Project”). Subsequently, the Company conducted a comprehensive review of its operations and future commitments against the new backdrop created by the COVID-19 global pandemic and concluded that it would not continue to pursue the concession rights for the Athens Project. Accordingly, on September 17, 2021, the Company, through its unrestricted subsidiaries, transferred all of its equity ownership in the Athens Project to GEK Terna, previously the minority investor in the project. The Company and GEK Terna coordinated the equity transfer with the requisite government officials in Greece, including approval by the Commission on October 22, 2021. The final transfer of the consortium’s reliance on the Company’s technical and professional capacity and experience in the development and operation of integrated resort casinos remains pending, along with other administrative procedures for final governmental and regulatory review.

Steelman Partners is honored that its design of INSPIRE Athens for Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment and GEK TERNA has been awarded the casino-operating license for a casino resort within the former Helinikon International Airport in Athens. The inspiration for the architecture comes from Greece’s architectural past, and in particular, from the Athenian statues and buildings. INSPIRE Athens will feature a luxury hotel, several entertainment venues, a convention center, retail, restaurants and a casino.

John Pagano and Ian Williamson holding up the first of a few thousand piles for our over-water villas on three of our amazing resorts on islands at the outer edge of The Red Sea archipelago.
The spun piles are between 18m to 25m and after drilling a pilot hole are given a gentle tap to push them in to the seabed. We are stood on a temporary piling platform.
Congratulations to China Harbor for their great work on these outer islands and to Fuad Hasan and John Larkin of TRSDC for their leadership.
