first look at saudi arabia's expo 2025 osaka pavilion designed by foster + partners
Source: https://www.designboom.com/architecture/first-look-saudi-arabia-expo-2025-osaka-pavilion-designed-foster-partners-11-17-2023/The pavilion is made from low carbon materials, includes energy saving luminaires, adopts rainwater recycling and incorporates photovoltaic technologies that generate electricity. The project aims to achieve the Japanese green building rating system’s highest level and is on track to achieve the Net Zero Operational Carbon target. In addition, the addition of a series of WELL design principles will uplift the occupants’ health and wellbeing. ‘Creating a legacy for the pavilion, once the Expo comes to an end, has been central to the design process. The structure’s cladding is made from lightweight Saudi stone and designed to be efficiently deconstructed and reassembled, or completely reconfigured, to meet different requirements in a future location,’ adds F+P partner Tony Miki. This inherent flexibility will significantly extend the lifespan of the pavilion and enhances its sustainable credentials.

Red Rock Resorts has delayed the planned opening of its $780 million Durango Casino and Resort, pushing the opening back into December. Saying that the new property will not yet be completed by the planned November 20 opening, the southwest Las Vegas casino is now eyeing December 5 for its big debut.
The delay was announced during the company’s third-quarter earnings conference call on Tuesday, November 7 — citing that portions of the $780 million resort will not yet be completed by the announced opening date. “We continue to prepare for the scheduled opening of our Durango Resort, which we have now moved to December 5, to ensure a first-class opening of the property,” the Red Rocks Resorts parent company said in a statement.
The 201-room casino and resort broke ground in March of last year on a 50-acre site near the 215 Beltway and South Durango Drive. When it opens, the 83,000-square-foot casino floor will have 15 dining establishments including a glitzy new lounge, a speakeasy bar, and a 25,000-square-foot food hall.

The Durango Casino & Resort will open its doors in southwest Las Vegas next month. Taking cues from the warm hues and vibrant landscapes that define the desert, the property is an interplay of stone-clad floors and walls, texture, light, and neutral tones.
The guestrooms—designed by Dallas-based Looney & Associates—are cocooned in warm, neutral tones, with a tapestry of textures and premium finishes. Each accommodation boasts floor-to-ceiling windows with sweeping views of the city’s skyline or mountainscape. Meanwhile, suites feature walls adorned with texture-rich art, hand-carved stone selections, dramatic lighting, and custom rugs and furniture.
Durango also features a 25,000-square-foot food hall, dubbed Eat Your Heart Out. Spearheaded by Hatch Design Group, the design of the dining space—which includes LA staple Irv’s Burgers and New York’s Prince Street Pizza, as well as local favorites like Shang Artisan Noodle—brings together greenery, contemporary finishes, dine-in and counter-seating options, along with an outdoor patio.

Saudi billionaire and royal family member Al Waleed bin Talal Al Saud has snapped up a 50% stake in the upcoming Four Seasons resort in the ultra-luxurious Red Sea project in Saudi Arabia for $266 million, according to a release from Red Sea Global. It marks the first time Al Saud has added a hotel in his own country to his portfolio of five-star properties.

Expected to open in two years’ time, it will have 149 rooms and suites, plus 31 residential properties, as well as six restaurants and “lounge outlets.” It will also have meeting and events spaces, a marine discovery center, and a kids area.
Kingdom Holding’s investment is in partnership with the project’s master developers, Red Sea Global. Saudi’s Public Investment Fund owns nearly 17% of Kingdom Holding, with Prince Al Waleed holding more than 78%.

The CEO of MGM Resorts has shared his expectation that the UAE could greenlight up to four casinos, including one in his own development: The MGM in Dubai. Bill Hornbuckle said at the Global Gaming Conference in Las Vegas this week that MGM is building a “podium and pedestal” that “could house a casino,” on the island in Dubai.
Hornbuckle shared the news in response to a question about the upcoming Wynn Al Marjan Island – which has a confirmed casino but is yet to secure any kind of license. The $3.9 billion Wynn will be in Ras Al Khaimah, overseen by a new arm of the emirate’s tourism authority called the Department of Entertainment and Gaming Regulation.
“Yes. We were there early. We have a project, now underway,” Hornbuckle said at the conference. “This island has an MGM, a Bellagio, and an Aria on it. We’re now building a podium and pedestal that could house a casino. We think there will be three or four [casinos] in the Emirates. It’s up to each ruler to decide what they want to do and where they want to do it.”Source: https://skift.com/2023/10/12/mgm-ceo-expects-4-uae-casinos-will-be-allowed-begins-building-in-dubai/“We have told them [Dubai] that we’ll put equity in, or we’ll lease the casino in its totality to give us the casino business,” Hornbuckle said. “I don’t know that they [Dubai] are going to want to be in the casino business… I think at the end of the day we’ll end up leasing the casino.”
“Reportedly there’s a gaming decree that has been signed, but not released.”
