In its quest to redefine tourism at the gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains, The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians has inked a deal to bring an international entertainment company to the United States for the first time. Tribal Council and international theme park company Puy du Fou have signed a letter of intent to develop a new "spectacular immersive show" as part of a 200-acre development located at Exit 407 south of Interstate 40 on the way to the Smokies.

The 407 partners have estimated the development could attract 6.7 million visitors in the first year after phase one is complete. That's expected sometime in 2024.

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians is developing "The 407: Gateway to Adventure" just off Interstate 40 in Sevier County. This rendering shows initial design plans partners hope will feel immersive and nostalgic. The developers are seeking world-class entertainment venues for phase one of the project, which also will include the largest Buc-ee's travel center in the country.
Knoxville-based OE Experiences represents Kituwah and The 407 in its search for world-class entertainment partners for the property. Now that initial funding is assured more hotels, restaurants, retail and attractions will be announced later this year, a release said. The tribe also purchased 122 acres on the north side of the interstate. It purchased both properties for about $21 million.

The full plan for the area hasn't released yet but Dubai was estimated at approx 425 hectares and Yumeshima Island (where the Japan Expo will be held) is approximately 390 hectates but Yumeshima will be holding a number of other attractions - such as the MGM hotel also featured on ResortX - so it's likely to be a much smaller footprint.

That being said Milan in 2015 was around 200 hectares and the 2010 Expo in Shanghai was the biggest to date at 523 hectares so they are very varied.

The US$70m Aquaparadise waterpark development has been indefinitely suspended following Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine

Most recently, NagaCorp, owner and operator of Cambodia’s NagaWorld in Phnom Penh, has announced the indefinite suspension of a gaming and resort project, which was under development in the Russian port city of Vladivostok and was set to feature a US$70m (€64.5m, £53.4m) waterpark.

Eastern Aqua Paradise and VEB Engineering signed a cooperation agreement for the waterpark in June 2021, with the Aquaparadise development set to feature a year-round indoor waterpark, shopping and entertainment areas, a sports and recreation complex and a four-star hotel. The Novotel-branded development would also have featured a spa and fitness areas, business centres and restaurants.

In an update to shareholders, the group said overnight that it faces “various uncertainties” leading to its decision to invoke the force majeure clause set out in the investment agreement and suspend its performance thereunder.

The billboard at the entrance to the Mandai Wildlife Reserve and new entrance area under construction.

Visitors taking public transport to the new Bird Paradise and Rainforest Wild (Asia) will alight at this level and ascend via escalators/elevators to the landscaped deck above, where the entrances to the 2 parks are located.

Everyone entering Mandai Wildlife Reserve will pass under the East Arrival, a landscaped deck that connects the entrances of the new Bird Paradise and Rainforest Wild (Asia). The gateway will eventually be framed by faux animal rock carvings.

Another MSG Sphere (like the one under construction in Las Vegas) has been put forward for a site in Stratford, East London, UK.

As well as being a global destination for arts, music and entertainment, one of the many reasons MSG Entertainment chose Stratford is because it is one of the best-connected parts of London.

On 22 March 2022, our proposals for MSG Sphere were recommended for planning permission by the LLDC Planning Decisions Committee, and we look forward to progressing onto the next steps in the approval process.
With a scalable capacity of up to 17,500 seated, or 21,500 with a mix of seated and standing, MSG Sphere would attract a wide variety of artists and content. We look forward to delivering something for everyone: concerts, residencies, immersive experiences, family shows, corporate events, award shows, product launches and select sporting events.

In addition to the main venue, our plans for MSG Sphere include:
    • Publicly-accessible outdoor spaces – including a nature play space for children, seating areas, and an outdoor gym
    • A range of indoor dining and entertainment options – a smaller music club/nightclub, retail space, a café, and restaurants

So I have been checking this out because I think it's hilariously bad.

The website for Moon World Resorts (the apparent company behind 4 Moon resorts worldwide) is literally 2 pages, a homepage which is just this image and a link to a "contact us" page which is just an email address. No further information on anything.

The alternative text for it reads... "For scale context a rendering of MOON is depicted on the site of the magnificent Burj Khalifa in Downtown Dubai, UAE; created by world class developer EMAAR" so they just added a resort where the Burj Khalifa actually is? This is madness.

There is also a video embedded that isn't actually visible on the site but is in the source code of the website and it's pretty awesome.

Mecanoo, the Dutch firm that recently dazzled New Yorkers with its $200 million transformation of the Mid-Manhattan Library (alongside Beyer Blinder Belle), is now set to wow future museum-goers in Abu Dhabi with its design for the emirate’s forthcoming Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi.

    New details

The updated plans involve a greater integration of biophilic design elements, including double-curved roofs, which reduce the amount of steel required, increasing the sustainability of the development. The new design also includes a green ‘vertical forest’ multi-storey car park to remove the need for under-venue parking and reduce the amount of excavation needed thereby simplifying the build process and lowering environmental impact.

New guest attractions include an all-season urban beach and the living waterslides – claimed to be the first in the world – incorporating a 3D-printed superstructure housing thousands of plants. A snow room, multi-sensory showers and oxygen rooms will also be on offer, as well as a visitor and education centre for events on sustainability, food and nature.

Biodiversity will be central to Therme Manchester via a 10,000sq m wellbeing garden, hydroponic vertical farm, more than 1,500 trees and roof-top beehives which will produce honey for use in restaurants and wellbeing treatments.

Therme Group is aiming to submit a revised planning application in the summer. Construction of the development is scheduled to begin in 2023, with a build time of around two years.

New Disney Vacation Club resort being built at Walt Disney World as part of the Polynesian Village Resort expansion. The new hotel and pool will open in 2024 according to the permit.

A new permit filed with the state of Florida reveals more about the upcoming Disney Vacation Club tower coming to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. The new building will be located on the west side of the existing Polynesian Village Resort property, taking over the closed Spirit of Aloha dinner show space.

Looking closer, we can see where the pool will be located. We can also see that there will be no new monorail station for this building. Guests will use the existing monorail station at the Great Ceremonial House similar to how guests at Bay Lake Tower use the monorail station at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.

LONGi, a key Chinese solar technology company, has announced that it has been awarded a contract to supply 406MW of its Hi-MO 5 bifacial modules to the SepcoIII Electric Power Construction Company towards development of Saudi Arabia's Red Sea Project.
The Red Sea Development Company (TRSDC), the developer behind the world's most ambitious regenerative tourism project, awarded its highest-value contract to date to a consortium led by Acwa Power to design, build, operate and transfer the project's utilities infrastructure, generating up to 650,000 MWh of CO2 free power.

The CO2 emissions saved are the equivalent of some half a million tons annually. Included in the package is the world's largest battery storage facility of 1000MWh, which will allow the destination to remain completely off-grid and powered by renewables day and night.

The agreement also covers the construction of three seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) plants, designed to provide clean drinking water, a solid waste management center and an innovative sewage treatment plant (STP) that is expected to allow waste to be managed in a way that enhances the environment, by creating new wetland habitats and supplementing the venue with irrigation water for landscaping.

  19. Suntrust Home Developers has confirmed the timeline for construction of its Westside City project, saying the main hotel is under construction and is expected to open in 2024. Suntrust is 51-percent owned by a local unit of Hong Kong-listed Suncity Holdings.

Suntrust entered into a co-development agreement with Westside City Resorts World in October 2019 under which it agreed to finance the development and construction costs for the resort and would be appointed as the exclusive operator and manager of the operations.

The group announced in November that it was extending the deadline for completion out to 2024, from 2023, due to the impact of Covid.

The Westside City project will be located in Entertainment City, and will include a 5-star hotel with at least 400 rooms, a casino with 400 gaming tables and 1,200 slot machines for both mass and VIP markets, and a 960 space parking lot. It’s the first foray into the Philippines for Hong Kong-listed Suncity, which has been aggressively diversifying its business.

This new development in California was announced a while ago, without any specific details, but it has now been announced that Disney will be holding a private groundbreaking ceremony at Cotino on April 26th at 10AM, according to an article in The Desert Sun.

Construction will begin with grading the land, which could take anywhere from six to nine months. A spokesman for the Rancho Mirage City Council said they have not yet received specific building plans for the community and that while initial proposals for Cotino have been approved, it still must go through the application and approval process which includes a presentation before the Architectural Review Board, the Planning Commission, and finally the City Council. At the City Council meeting, the public will be able to give their opinions on the new community.

It's difficult to tell. There are two apartments listed for rental on Air BnB but only one has a single review from 2021 so could easily be scam listings using photos from offical sources with random interior shots (they both look similar inside and not to RC quality!). There is no official Ritz-Carlton bookings available and the Gold Course is not open.

It looks dead to me but there are still villas listed for sale and the RC website does list it as "opening soon" - there is also a big difference in progress between photos, some looks almost photoshopped they are so pristine whereas the google maps photos show a grubby, overgrown development.

If anyone has any further updates or photos that we can properly date it would be interesting to see.
