A really interesting look at the original man-made island plans and what has become of them.
Construction has continued through the pandemic and the first phase of The Heart of Europe on The World will be delivered by Q4 this year.
Austrian developer Josef Kleindienst’s US$5bn mega-resort project, The Heart of Europe, in Dubai is on track to complete phase one of construction, despite COVID-19.
The Heart of Europe is claimed to feature the world’s first floating underwater spa as well as 15 unique hotels and resorts spread across six islands designed to showcase European culture, heritage and lifestyle experiences through architecture, events and new technology, such as the world’s first climate-controlled rainy street and snow plaza.
Even when COVID-19 halted other projects’ progress on mainland Dubai, the developer reported that construction is in ‘full swing’, with phase one of the project set to be complete in 2020 Q4 which involves the completion of four hotels.

The plans look crazy with climate controlled outdoor areas, floating villas with underwater viewing rooms and themed islands with European countries as inspiration. You can find out more about the whole project here... https://www.thoe.com/

The developers are actually changing their plans because they have sold so many private residences and are now looking to reduce hotel building to accommodate more villas.
According to Kleindienst, the high demand for already completed villas has led the company to decide to expand its villa offerings in future stages of construction.
“All our villas [that have been put up for sale] are sold. Because of the high demand for villas, we’ve decided to change the Switzerland island from a previously planned hotel concept to a villa concept. It will be redesigned to provide more villas.Source: https://www.arabianbusiness.com/construction/446600-kleindienst-group-to-ramp-up-villa-construction-on-heart-of-europe-amid-high-demandThe first phase of the project is slated for delivery in Q4 2020. The phase will consist of three islands – Sweden, Germany and Honeymoon islands – as well as 78 ‘floating seahorses’ and the Portafino Hotel.
There is a current tender on offer for a project on The World Islands and was updated on May 12th. Does anyone know what this might be related to? Maybe just an old tender that's been updated incorrectly or is something going on there now? It seems unlikely to be an ongoing project?
