So this is extremely confusing, can anyone shed any light on the situation?

The pages on the Ritz-Carlton page for this resort show all the amenities etc but no information on opening / booking. But if you look for a Hilton resort in the same area a very similar looking resort is open there.

    https://www.hilton.com/en/hotels/jzhjihi-hilton-jiuzhaigou-resort/

Where they always the two branded resorts in the same location or has the hotel been sold to another operator and no longer expecting a Ritz-Carlton in that area? The Hilton definitely matches the concept art and resort layout shown here for the Ritz-Carlton and the amenities are described in the same way i.e. villas, spa, location etc.

Here is a photo heavy review of the Hilton and you can see how it matches the concept art and other images we have seen before, would be weird if there were two hotels in the same resort that looked so similar but perhaps that was always the case?

I found some new images but to see the whole article I need to be a Chinese citizen to register, requires a Chinese phone number / WeChat account. Could anyone follow up and see if you can find the rest of the images?

The hotel buildings looks like it's quite far into construction from what I could see.

It looks like the area is now open to tourists in groups but the hotel is now delayed into 2021 opening. I can't find any construction images though... only concept art.

The Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area has been reopened two weeks ago. The current flow is limited and can only receive group tourists.
The Ritz-Carlton Hotel, which was originally scheduled to open in the third quarter of last year, has also been delayed, and is currently tentatively unveiled in the first half of next year.

87 luxury villas are situated along the edge of the Tibetan Plateau with panoramic views of the beautiful snow-capped Minshan mountain range, deep woodlands, and ancient Tibetan villages. The angled shape of the villas mimics the surrounding mountain peaks and reflect the extraordinary rugged landscape.

Celebrating the natural beauty and richness of the region, WATG’s design for the new destination pays homage to the local Tibetan heritage through the use of traditional building forms and locally-sourced materials and indigenous planting.
